Synonyms: Bronchitic Asthma, Dispnoa, Allergic asthma

This disease is marked by intermittent dyspnea, wheezy respiration, and perhaps a soft spasmodic cough. Aged cats which have become obese occasionally suffer from it, though perhaps not so frequently as do dogs. Such animals, after having been at rest in a certain atmosphere, become attacked if they start running, or climbing stairs, or even if they go from a warm room into a cold one. There is apparently a temporary constriction of the laryngeal or bronchial mucous membrane induced by the change in temperature; or perhaps a muscular spasm of these organs causing a narrowing of their lumen. Heart disease, also, will set up asthmatic symptoms if the animal over-exerts itself.
